HOW LONG CAN I GO BETWEEN SHARPENINGS?

A sharp knive wears over time due to cut cycles, it becomes duller.  The difference in how a sharp knife cut and a dull knife cuts will gradually happen over a couple thousand cycles.  It is easy to think a dull knife is still sharp enough because the dullness comes on slowly.

Indication that its time to change the Knife:

 *  The knife seems to struggle when starting through a lift of paper.

 *  There are lines or scratches on the cut edge of the lift of paper.

 *  There seems to be more dust coming off of the edge of the paper.

 *  The lift is uneven although your clamp pressure is set correctly. This is called DRAW and is most      noticeable when the top of the lift is longer than the bottom.

 *  Chip board and other abrasive paper should be cut last before you change your knife.

These are hard on a knife.

Always refer to owner manual for proper installation of a new knife.

Bindery Parts Store has trained technicians who can change your knife if you are uncomfortable in doing so.

Cutting Sticks should regularly be rotated to assure consistent, accurate cutting of the bottom sheets.

Cutting Angles ground on the cutting edge can be modified by your sharpening service to aid in longer life cycles of your knife. A 24 degree angle is the most popular for many commercial printers.
